IMAXXAM sets course for a sustainable future at an early stage with Power Purchase Agreement with Westbridge
The asset and portfolio manager IMAXXAM has concluded a groundbreaking Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Westbridge Advisory GmbH (Westbridge), thereby expanding its cooperation with the energy and sustainability consultant. From 2026, the PPA will supply almost all 80 properties in the portfolio managed by IMAXXAM for general consumption with certified green electricity from Germany. Until then, the current supply of green energy will continue.
A PPA is a long-term contract directly between an energy producer and the electricity consumer or energy supplier as an intermediate stage. The main advantages of such a PPA are greater price stability on the energy market and certified guarantees of origin for CO2-neutral energy from local or regional plants. This ensures the greatest possible transparency regarding energy sources. By concluding the PPA, IMAXXAM is setting the course for the future requirements of the EU taxonomy and the CRREM (Carbon Risk Real Estate Monitor) pathway at an early stage.
Christoph Geißler, Managing Director of IMAXXAM, says: "Sustainability is a central component of our corporate strategy. We are therefore consciously positioning ourselves now, ahead of the expected legal requirements and restrictions, so that we are well equipped for the future. The conclusion of this PPA is therefore a voluntary building block for reducing our CO2 emissions and becoming CO2-neutral in the long term. In the next step, we will gradually minimize the energy consumption of the individual properties through various measures."
Thanks to the cooperation with Westbridge, IMAXXAM will reduce its CO2 emissions by around 2,565 tons per year over the two-year contract period from 2026. IMAXXAM can add newly acquired properties to the PPA at any time. In addition, the tenants of the individual properties can also purchase their tenant electricity via the PPA if required in order to reduce their carbon footprint. Christopher Feliks, Managing Director at Westbridge, adds: "We are delighted to continue working with IMAXXAM. Through the new Power Purchase Agreement, we will be able to offer IMAXXAM an even more stable and environmentally friendly energy supply for their properties from 2026. Real estate companies like IMAXXAM can not only plan their energy costs in good time with us, they are also making an active contribution to climate protection."
